A unique interesting library / kitchen cabinet, finely crafted with grill panels denoting good blessings. With original finish and hardware it offers an elegant interesting accent piece.

An open kitchen storage cabinet with upper cabinet section, the fretwork doors backed with rattan, three drawers, and a lower cabinet section of openwork doors above a lockable closed coffer. The fretwork actually set with a modified seal script character in each panel, the front panels with the same characters across reading (descending) fortune, prosperity, longevity and happiness (fu, lu shou, xi). The sides with quartets of characters, the upper sections reading "long ages of fortune and happiness", the lower with "enduring halls of gold and jade". The lower aprons of the cabinet with post and coin motif and square scrolling. The whole lacquered originally a light brown.

This curious cabinet is probably from the kitchen of a wealthy family, despite the attempt to make it seem rustic and more rural in tone. The wishes and auspicious characters also suggest that though the design is that of a food storage cabinet, this may in fact be a bookshelf for a rustic motif library or study.
